Fashion Week Trend Alert - Fingernails

Ladies, you heard it here first. Get rid of those squared off nail tips.
They are out, out, out for next spring!!
We got that word straight from none other than Jan Arnold, founder of CND (Creative Nail Design), which does the nail tips and colors for most of the major shows happening during Fashion Week.
So what's in?
Say hello to the almond shaped nail tip, ladies. According to Arnold all the major designers are opting for the almond-shaped nail look for Spring 2008.
"The square tip is going out. It shortens the hand where the almond shape give you that length," says Arnold, who has been in the nail business for almost 30 years.
So what else is in?
We got to chatting with Arnold before watching the Chaiken collection and had initially just been interested in photographing Arnold for her eye-catching outfit.
But as often happens at Fashion Week, you never know who is sitting next to you.
"Longer nails make things more sleek," she says. "For daytime, it's all about translucent, sheer color. But at night it goes nearly black, like ink. A lot of designers are opting for a very very dark nail, even though the clothes are in these powder blues and blush tones.
"It's like they're saying 'She's pretty, but she also has this edge to her'."
Arnold's company works closely with designers on options on nail shapes and colors. For Baby Phat, for example, CND did special gold tips with a nude base to create the illusion of jewelry on the fingertips.
With other designers, CND custom blends colors to the designers' specifications.
"It's a finishing touch," Arnold says of the nail colors CND produces. "It's a way to make a statement in another small way."
